PICC Line Adventures Part I
This past Monday, I got surgery to put in a PICC line for my #lymedisease. So YEAH KYM...what IS a PICC line?! I had no idea either;). Enter...Sleuth Smarts.
A #piccline is a small catheter like tube inserted into a vein in your arm, and threaded up to a cavity in your chest near your heart. It’s a powerful tool to deliver medication to patients directly into the bloodstream. It bypasses the gut (which keeps it and your microbiome in tact), and is a more potent delivery for medication. It’s primarily used for people with cancer and long-standing autoimmune diseases that need the help.
All that to say...the surgery was quite an experience. I’m super sensitive, and even though they locally numbed me at the site, I felt it all. 🤢 It was kind of a trippy experience. It was painful, but mostly weird. To feel a foreign object go into my chest...Phew! This is me right after stepping out of the hospital, taking it all in.
I almost hurled after the procedure, but luckily my man @can.therapeutic was there to support me. And he couldn’t even come inside the hospital due to Covid precautions, so he amazingly stayed on speaker phone with me during the entire procedure. And I got to talk to my awesome ladies @schoolinhomestyle @iamlisaparis and @goldenedg right after, and they’ve had my back the whole way. I’ve said it once (or maybe MORE than once;), and I’ll say it again...true health truly takes a village. It’s hard to go into the vulnerability and uncertainty of the body, and I’m so grateful I have a team of people supporting me through it. And I love supporting others to explore their health in the same way.
The week after has been full of ups and downs, including an ER visit and a leakage scare!, and it’s been a powerful experience. I’m learning to investigate my #health in a different way, and have less fear and more compassion and patience for the process. AND I’m seeing how determined I am! I’m making big choices that feel right to me, and only time will tell how it will all unfold. More to be revealed, and more #adventure updates to come.
