Sleuth Smarts: Blood Orange

Sleuth Smarts Sunday.

In honor of the blood orange moon tonight (which was gorgeous here in LA!), I'm doing my SS this week on the illustrious blood orange.

SLEUTH SMARTS.

It's a pigmented, Mediterranan variety of the regular orange.

The deep red color is actually because of higher amount of antioxidants than oranges! These control inflammation and prevent cell damage.

Due to the high level of antioxidants and other nutrients, blood oranges are actually considered a superfood.

Contains Vitamin A and Calcium, which are good for skin and teeth.

High in Vitamin C, naturally ;). One medium orange has 100% DV requirements.

High in Folate, which is a B Vitamin important for women trying to conceive/who are pregnant, and the formation of red blood cells.

Blood oranges help with high cholesterol, cancer, and heart disease.

Now that's something to howl at the moon about!
